Who are the Kanneh-Masons?

VRS audiences are very familiar with two members of the extremely talented Kanneh-Mason family: cellist Sheku and pianist Isata, who made their Canadian debuts in a sold-out VRS recital in 2017. Incredibly, there are five additional Kanneh-Mason siblings, all of whom play either violin, piano or cello. Isata (26), Braimah (25), Sheku (23), Konya (22), Jeneba (20), Aminata (17) and Mariatu (13) all play either piano, violin, cello or a combination. All of them attend or have attended London’s Royal Academy of Music and its Primary and Junior Academies, except pianist Jeneba who has progressed to London’s Royal College of Music for her undergraduate studies. They grew up listening to a wide variety of music and are comfortable playing everything from Bob Marley, to Mozart, to musicals. They are an incredible family, and we are so thrilled to bring them together for a performance at the Orpheum!

What are they playing?

The Kanneh-Masons will perform works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Brahms, and more.
